Koytendag national park was created in 1989 on territory, which occupies 27 140 ha in order to protect unique mountain landscape of Kugintau mountain range. All totaled there is 150 kinds of plants, most of them endemics. About 21 species of mammals (markhoor, turkmen lynx, whiteclaw bear, snow leopard, bearded vulture), 143 types of birds, 21 – reptiles, 2 – amphibians are registered within territory of this reserve. Here are kept one of kind archeological and paleontological monuments – footprints of dinosaurs, Karlyuk and Kap-Kutan caves.
