Muruntau – one of the largest gold fields in the world. It is a leading Zarafshan`s gold-mining complex field, which ranks second place in gold-mining’s production (after “Grasberg” enterprise in Indonesia). For working out this field, the biggest gold-mining open pit in the world was created (length-3.5km, width-2.7km, depth-430m). This field was discovered in 1958. Commercial metal production has been started in July 21, 1969. Development is leading by Navoi mining and metallurgical plant. In 2001 production volume has equaled to 53 tons annually and 61 tons in 2014. In 2007, remaining gold in place valued at 1750 tons.
